The Choir Handbook contains answers to many of your questions, so we recommend parents start there first. You can find it in your student's Campus Documents.
Who can join choir?
Choir is open to all students in grades 6–12. All are welcome.
Does my child need singing experience?
Not at all. Choir is a teaching ensemble—we welcome all skill levels and focus on growth.
Is choir a graded class?
Yes. Choir is a performance-based academic course. Grades reflect class participation, skill development, and concert attendance.
Are performances required?
Yes. All concerts, UIL events, and community performances are mandatory unless excused in advance for illness or emergencies.
What happens if my child misses a concert?
Excused absences may be made up through singing assessments or a written critique. Unexcused absences earn a zero. Refer to the Choir Handbook for more details. The Choir Handbook can be found within your student's Campus Documents.
What is required for concert attire?
High School and Junior High students wear issued formal uniforms. Sixth Grade students wear a black top, black pants or skirt, and black dress shoes—no sandals or tennis shoes. Choir T-shirts are used for casual events and some performances.
Are there choir fees?
No. Any money collected will be minimal and only for optional shirts or trips. Uniforms are provided by the district. Students must pay for lost or damaged items.
How should students prepare at home?
Students should review music outside of class. Practice tracks are available online. Bring folders and pencils to every rehearsal.
